I'm a casual reader. Did I enjoy the reading experience? Would I read more? I will highlight what I did and/or didn't enjoy. I do not edit grammar or spelling, but I might comment on it. |
Unsentimental. I focus on the kinds of craft issues that will keep a writer from being taken seriously and prevent them from fully expressing their vision.

I dissect stories like a surgeon with a poet’s hands—probing the emotional marrow, not just the bones. My reviews prioritize thematic resonance, psychological authenticity, and prose that feels before it explains. I’ll ask why the rain in your story smells like regret, or how the silence between lovers becomes its own character. Technical critiques (pacing, grammar) come only if requested—I’m here to unravel why your story haunts, not just how it functions. |
I'm honest when I review thing I'll say what's on my mind but at the same time I try to stay positive and will always tell you what you did right but this means in no way am I a professional reviewer so take my reviews with a grin of salt please |
Minimalist. Focus on technical. I also look at how a work would fit into the traditional publishing landscape. I don't use a template. Warning: I am Australian, and so cultural differences may apply. |
My reviewing style varies. I'll let you know in advance that my reviews aren't merely based on what I feel about your piece. I assure you, I'll be letting you know that, but I'm particularly stringent when it comes to grammatical and technical errors in the pieces that I review. I'm uncommonly thorough, as far as my treatment of each piece that I critique is concerned, and my goal is to help to improve the piece, rather than to "hold your hand and tell you everything's gonna be alright"; which some other reviewers on this site tend to do. To that end, if you're looking for an absolutely honest and serious review, I'm your man. If you like, you can request my appraisal of a short story or essay. I will NOT review an entire book or novel outright, but I'll have no problem what-so-ever in reviewing one on a chapter-by-chapter basis. As a Group Leader of the WdC SuperPower Reviews Group, my reviews will be particularly pertinent, as we're the number one team of reviewers on Writing.com. |
I'll give a quick summary of your item. Afterwards, I'll talk about your characters, any Spelling or Grammar issues, and perhaps suggest some things, like adding the item to a Genre that it would fit into. |
I look for how well the story or poem flows and if there are things out of place. I also check for grammar and spelling errors. |
I give constructive criticism of your work. I will be very honest but polite. When I read a story I ask myself if this is something I would pay to read in a magazine or an online venue. If it is, I will tell you why, if not I will tell you why it's not. Please do not send me rough drafts. If it is not a finished copy, then I don't want to see it because the errors tend to be too distracting from the actual story. |
I like to give friendly advice that I hope will help, not harm. |
I am thorough. The technical aspects are important to me as much as if the story makes sense. The word "cruel" has been used before when responding to a review I've given, but in an appreciative and kind way. |
I tend to be constructive, though I've been known to be a bit too nice...at least, in my opinion. note that while I'll review anything requested, they can be a bit sloppy if I don't take interest. |
I don't know what my style is, but I point out what sticks out at me. |
My review style is not as most I dont really focus on grammar or on paragraphing, I am not much of a literary technique viewer.I'm an emotional reader I would like the writer to provoke some type of emotion in me. Whether it be pain or fear or pure agony. I need to feel something when I am reading otherwise I wouldn't really prefer reading it. |
I like to say how I relate to an item. Spelling and grammar are less important. |
I will give the kind of review that I wish people gave me: rather detailed with emphasis on areas that need growth and areas that are pretty good already. And I'll review pretty much anything, whether a poem or an entire novel or anything in between. Admittedly, though, I do tend to be absent-minded, so it does happen that you might have to resend me the review request, but I promise I'll get around to it eventually. |
Casual for the most part. I will point out errors I see and offer suggested corrections. I like to focus on the content and formatting of the item. I love providing helpful comments and feedback that may improve the item if acted on. |
I like to be analytical in my reviewing. The most interesting pieces of writing often work on a number of different levels, and so I try to consider multiple perspectives when informing the author of what I liked or disliked about their piece. For this reason, I don't get along very well with templates, as I find they turn the whole process into something very clinical! You can expect my reviews to be a fluid, tailored discussion of your individual work. |
